Meet the Guides

Frank Saksa

I started guiding in 1982, & I’ve been at Gaston’s almost 30 years. We are very particular about keeping people comfortable and safe. I love to teach folks how to become better fishermen and how fish react to us. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, we can accommodate you. I have a lot of fun with my clients, and many of them become friends.

When you hire me as your guide, you can expect a top-notch experience. We go through everything from learning how to catch the fish to why we fish certain areas and what they’re feeding on that time of year. I just really enjoy the fellowship of it all and making connections while catching all kinds of trout and even a few walleye.

I’ve been guiding for about five years, and I do my best to make it a good experience. Seeing someone go from never catching a trout on a fly rod to catching a 20-inch brown is pretty awesome. I’ll work hard to be on the fish, be in the right part of the river at the right time and fish those shoals as the water is coming into them.

Fishing runs in my family. My father was a guide for 54 years, and I’ve been following in his footsteps since 1991. I just love being outside and on the river; it’s my happy place. When you fish with me, you will have a fun day filled with good conversation, making new friends and catching a lot of rainbows and some browns.

I’ve been guiding on and off since 1989. I love seeing repeat customers and meeting people from all walks of life. When on a trip, we’ll get out of the hole, move around and see some sites along the way. No matter what, you can expect to catch a lot of fish like rainbows, browns, cutthroats, brooks, tigers and goldens.

My first guide trip was back in 1994, and it has been a lot of fun to meet new people and catch fish on the White River since then. When you hire me, you can expect to catch a lot of rainbow trout along with some browns and goldens. We’re also going to have fun and tell some jokes – but catching fish, that’s the main thing.

I’ve been in the guiding business for 38 years, so you can expect a lot of fun and something different when on a trip with me. I love meeting new people every day and showing kids how to fish. When on the river, browns and rainbows are the main thing we’re going to catch, but cutthroat, golden and tiger trout are out there too.

Expect an excellent time fishing with me. I’ll work my tail off to make sure you catch all kinds of trout and teach you everything you need to know about fishing. Whatever you want, I’m going to make it happen. I’ve been on the water my whole life, so I’m grateful to do this full time since 2005. Go big or go home is what I always say!

      FLY FISHING SCHOOL

Led by master fly fisherman Frank Saksa, our fly fishing school class is a one day course for 2 people. Combining a bit of in-classroom teaching with hands-on experience, our classes are a wonderful introduction into the art of fly fishing, and a great way to gain experience to utilize for years. The cost is the same as our full day guided fishing trips.

To reserve your class slot or for more information, please contact us via contact form or by phone call at 870-431-5202.

Please note that you must furnish your own chest high waders.
