Spring Cave Exploring in the Ozark Mountains

Spring brings the best time to come down south and visit the Ozark Mountains, especially in Lakeview Arkansas. Here at Gaston’s White River Resort, we’re sure you’ll enjoy every minute of your adventures in and around our beautiful Arkansas resort. One top thing to see this Spring are the cavern hidden deep in the Ozark Mountains.

Arkansas is known for having some of the countries most amazing show caverns. There are plenty of caves and caverns to visit during the final winter months and early spring. The weather isn’t too incredibly hot out, so this season offers a pleasant time of the year to explore our surroundings.

Bull Shoals Caverns

Right next door to Lakeview you’ll find one of our recommended caves at Bull Shoals Caverns. These caves offer guided tours through the winding paths of the underground caves. Formed millions of years ago by water. Homes to many living creatures, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for hanging bats and salamanders. Plus, learn all about the Ordovician period and experience some amazing underground rivers.

Blanchard Springs Caverns

Blanchard Springs Caverns is another cavern near our resort. Near Mountain View, AR, you’ll find this spectacular cave setting deep beneath the surface. Learn about the living cave system and see the wonderful formations of stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, and so much more! The crystallized formations, created by mineral deposits, which with the help of dripping water, take shape.

Mystic Caverns and Crystal Dome Cavern

If you’re okay with going for a drive, an hour west of us will place you at the Mystic Caverns and Crystal Dome Cavern. These two caverns are only set 400 feet from one another but found almost 100 years apart. See for yourself how spectacular the 8-foot dome is in the Crystal Dome Cavern or view the ‘Pipe Organ’ which is a formation made of minerals. You can also learn all about how this cavern came to be and the breathtaking beauty found only in an Arkansas Cavern.

With so much to do during the day, you’ll want to head underground and experience a magical world. No two cave systems are the same, so we recommend a fun day trip to see all three options, then come back and enjoy a cozy cabin nestled right on the White River!
