Gaston's White River
Resort
is the only area on the White River where you can enjoy night
time trophy trout fishing. Right in the front of your cottage, night trophy
trout fishing is an excellent time to catch the trophy brown trout.

Just One of The MANY "Night Time" Trophy
Trout
That Have Been Caught and Released.
"Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
Some blunders and absurdities crept in;
Forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day;
You shall begin it serenely and
With too high a spirit to be encumbered
With your old nonsense."

For the past two weeks the water generation has been relatively steady, running 2-3 units around the clock. Once in a while, the corps will shut down all units. When they turn a generator or two back, on watch out! The trout will bite really good
for quite a while because of a fresh food supply washing down river.
Reports from Gaston's guests, guides, and dock crew
A hot bait new to the area, is an Eagle Claw Nitro Worm. (This bait is scented and cannot be used in the Catch-and-Release Area.) The pink, orange, and red/chartreuse is super good when going after the elusive trophy trout. Other good baits catching trout consist of live
redworms, live night crawlers, Berkley Powerbait (yellow and white).
Artificial lures that are catching trout well are the red/gold buoyant spoon, and gold/nickel
Colorado. Jigs also tend to catch trophy trout colored green, brown, and black. Countdown rapalas #'s 5 & 7 silver might just happen to entice a big brown trout to stretch a line.
Hank Wilson's Recommendations
Of course, the bulbous bivisible is a fly that all fly fishermen have to try at least once. We are soon coming into a season when the gold ribbed hares ear will start catching trout. White or pink jigs below a strike indicator is still a great choice. Other recommendations are the .56ers, and the zebra midge.
Reports from our fly-fishermen and
other fly guides
The bulbous bivisible is still the best fly going. If the trout do not rise for the bivisible, add a zebra midge dropper. The Y2K bug, red san juan worms, olive wholly buggers, and sow bugs are what is catching trout the best.
Reports from the State Park Trout Dock
If someone was to grab chartreuse rooster tails, rainbow countdown, orange/gold little cleos, red worms and/or night crawlers, and orange or white powerbait, they should have some great
rainbow or trophy brown trout.
It is rewarding to see the bait fisherman, fly fisherman,
guides, operators and the public working together in the best interest of the
White River and it's Trophy Trout fishing program. Just proves what a bit
of teamwork will do.
Good luck with your fishing and take a
buddy along to enjoy fishing also
and to make memories of a lifetime.
