Gaston's White River
Resort
is the only area on the White River where you can enjoy night
time trophy trout fishing. Right in the front of your cottage, night trophy
trout fishing is an excellent time to catch the trophy brown trout.

Just One of The MANY "Night Time" Trophy
Trout
That Have Been Caught and Released.
"Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could;
Some blunders and absurdities crept in;
Forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day;
You shall begin it serenely and
With too high a spirit to be encumbered
With your old nonsense."

Water generation has been running 2
units around the clock for the past week. However with any amount of water
fly-fishing for trophy trout has been very good. Never worry about the higher
water levels; such makes for more food sources for the trout and keeps the
alive.
Trophy trout can be caught on a variety of different baits or lures. The most
common bait is two power eggs or a pink rubber worm w/ a single yellow or white
power egg set up on a white river trout rig. The most common used lures are the
red and gold buoyant spoon, and small spinners. This can be very effective on
0-3 units of water. From 3-4 generators of water live red worms, night crawlers,
and pink jigs are catching some trophy trout as well. Lures that catch trout on
3-4 units are the countdown rapalas, pearl shad excaliburs, and pink jigs.
Our Fly fishing guides and fishermen
are still having excellent catches with 1/64th oz. chrome dome pink jigs under a
big strike indicator. Rising trophy browns have also been known to hit Hank's
Bulbous Bivisible or Hank's Quick Sight Ant. One common technique some
fly-fishermen are catching trout on is using the Bulbous Bivisible with a zebra
midge dropper. Other recommended flies are the olive woolly bugger, the zebra
midge and the red san juan worm, these always seems to be a good choice.
Note: When throwing jigs, remember
to set the strike indicator where the jig is 1-2 inches off the bottom.
Hank Wilson’s Recommendations for the wading fly-fishermen are fishing with his Bulbous Bivisible,
his hopper pattern when the Bivisible isn’t working, and sow bugs on lower
water conditions.
Our friends at Bull Shoals White
River State Park reports that the combination of power egg colors is working
exceptionally well. A trophy brown trout 27’’ was caught on 2 pinks and 1
yellow. Night crawlers and redworms are also catching good size trophy trout.
Spoons on lower water conditions catch trout very well using the red and gold
buoyant spoon. When generating 2 units, the gold and orange Krocodile spoon
catches the best trout.
In the Catch and Release Area, red and cream colored glowworms
are very hot baits for trophy trout. All of the flies, baits and lures mentioned
in the state park and from our guides are catching many trophy trout. Remember
that when fishing the Catch and Release Area, single barbless hooks are the only
hooks allowed and artificial baits that are unscented. No live bait permitted. This has become the HOT SPOT on the White River for trophy trout
over the past four years!
It is rewarding to see the bait fisherman, fly fisherman,
guides, operators and the public working together in the best interest of the
White River and it's Trophy Trout fishing program. Just proves what a bit
of teamwork will do.
Good luck with your fishing and take a
buddy along to enjoy fishing also
and to make memories of a lifetime.

4 trout steaks (1/2 lb
each)
2 ounces whiskey or brandy
2 cloves garlic
2 ounces lemon juice
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 cup or more of sesame seeds
slivers of ginger (if desired)
Directions
Grind the garlic very
fine or pound it in a mortar with the tablespoon of salt. Or, you may crush it
and mix it in a bowl with a heavy wooden spoon.
Rub this mixture on the fish and let it stand for at least 1 hour, 2 or 3 hours
will make it much better.
Prepare a basting sauce
with the soy sauce (use more than 2 tablespoons if you like the flavor), the
whiskey or brandy, the lemon juice, and melted butter.
Paint the fish with
this mixture before and during cooking.
Turn once. Cook until
pleasantly browned and then sprinkle heavily with sesame seeds. Continue cooking
until the seeds are well toasted.
Serve on a hot platter
with wedges of lemon or lime. Slivers of ginger (fresh or preserved) may be
