The first part of July has been amazing as far as
Trophy Trout fishing is concerned. Bull Shoals dam is generating anywhere from 1 to 7 units around the clock.
The Trophy Trout Catch and Release Program has really taken effect here on the White River. River guides say that the average size of Rainbows and Browns being caught are
much larger than past years. The best way to try and catch the Trophy Rainbows are by using
live red worms and live light crawlers, Buoyant Spoons, Red Rubber Glo-Worms, and Yellow Powerbait. The Trophy Brown Trout tend to bite best on Live Night Crawlers, Rapalas, and Black-backed rogues.
Fly fisherman have a few options to choose from. Pink 64th oz Chrome Dome Jigs, Red San Juan Worms catch Trophy Trout when the water is high. The Bulbous Bi-visible and the Grasshopper patterns catch more when the water is lower. Of course, the fall back flies would be the Olive Bead-Headed Woolly Bugger and the Fox Squirrel Tail Nymph.
It is
rewarding to see the bait fisherman, fly fisherman, guides, operators and the
public working together in the best interest of the White River and it's Trophy
Trout fishing program. Just proves what a bit of team work can do.

Fishing the White River is allowed 12 months out of
the year. The months of November through March offer some of the
trophy trout
catches of all seasons, however, fishing is good all year as the water temperature remains
an approximate 50 degrees throughout the year.

Fried Trout Filets
Serves:
4
Ingredients
4 boned trout
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup flour
Salt and pepper
1 lemon, quartered
Directions
Mix flour with paprika,
salt and pepper.
Dip each fillet, lightly coating on both sides.
In a large non-stick
skillet, heat oil on medium.
Add filets and cook 2
minutes on each side, or until just cooked throughout.
Serve with lemon
wedges.

Pointers For
Catch-n-Release
Use
barbless hooks.
Land the fish as quickly as possible.
When unhooking the fish, keep it in the water as long as possible.
Wet your hands before you touch the fish.
Don't squeeze the fish or stick your fingers in its gills.
Cut the line if the fish has swallowed the hook.
